Betsy - Don't worry about using up space. I was excited to see the bridge hand. My first thought was also 2s. Though options would be:
a) 2s
b) x
c) 3c
4) pass - to see if they can get into more trouble
But 2s seems to have been the winning play! (Though even with clubs breaking 2-3, not sure how you managed to pitch a diamond.) Yes, miss bridge, but only slightly.
Patrick's mum - Been meaning to respond to you. I asked Patrick about the Bantu thing. He confirmed that you are not supposed to call them Bantu in South Africa. It was funny because Joash, a (Bantu) Kenyan riding on the tour, was there and asked, "So what do they call themselves?" Patrick said, "African", or maybe "black". I said that neither African nor black described the people whom I was talking about, who were Bantus, but Patrick said that you're not supposed to say that in S. Africa. Apparently, it stems from the apartheid era, where bantu was a derogatory word, and bantu education was used as an excuse for inferior education. That's a shame.
I'm sorry we won't meet up in Cape Town or Vic Falls, as I would have liked to meet you. Maybe we'll meet up one day if I ever managed to get all the way inside the country of S. Africa, even past the airport.
Ed - You are a certified GENIUS! If I ever make the mistake of starting to question your authority on any subject, please let me know. Say hi to David. Buy him a beer for me. I won't pay you back, but tell him it's from me anyway.
Dad - No, didn't remember that that was the same area you, me, and Mom were at, but it is nice to know that I'm retracing old paths.
Everybody Else - Sorry that I am leaving the tour. I put quite a bit of thought into it and I will miss my friends on the tour. In fact, have already missed them for the past 4 nights in a row (other than last night, when we were together again, for the last time). I am quite worried about Eva's head. Last night it was announced that she had won the Malawi Gin section. This is quite concerning, almost enough to make me stay on the tour and supervise, but not quite enough. I am looking forward with delight to the next 6 weeks of adventure. Will keep up the blog until I reach my driveway in Uganda!
